THENET PLUS VERSIONS

Version 2.00 was the prototype test node. The maximum number of calls
listed in the Heard list was 10 over a 10 minute period.
Version 2.01 was the first "general release" of TheNet Plus. The Heard
list was changed to a maximum of 20 calls listed over a 15 minute period. A
parameter was added which allowed the NodeOp to set the maximum number in the
Heard list to a value less than 20, if desired.
Version 2.02 was a non-released experimental node.
Version 2.03 was identical to version 2.01 with the exception of a bug fix
associated with Parameter 24. In version 2.01, if Parameter 24 (callsign
verification) was turned off, it also disabled the N * function. Version 2.03
corrects this situation.
Version 2.04 corrected a problem caused by the fix in version 2.03 and
changed Parameters 28, 29, and 30 to agree with the SETPLUS utility and the
documentation.
Version 2.05 added several new NodeOp convenience features. One was to
have the STA LED light when someone connected to the node. It was felt this
would assist the NodeOp in servicing his equipment while at the site. Another
new feature was to add three SYSOP KEY commands, MARK, SPACE and DIDDLE which
keys the transmitter and turns on appropriate alignment tones. Also added was
an ON - OFF remote control capability. One of the node command responses was
changed to "Host busy", instead of "Host table full" when a user attempted to
connect to the Host (a disallowed function when the Host port is active). The
"Not Found" response to an unknown node now indicates "Not Found: <node
alias>" which purpose is to provide the user an "assurance prompt".
Version 2.06 corrected a long-standing routing display anomaly.
Version 2.07 added more network control functions to the node. The STA LED
function was modified from indicating node activity to now lighting when a
level 4 circuit (at the node) was either attempted or established. The number
of SYSOP adjustable parameters were reduced from 31 to 13. However all 31
parameters were still settable with the SETPLUS utility.
Version 2.08 provided enhanced network control functions and improved the
password routine. The number of SYSOP settable parameters were increased from
13 to 16. A version 2.08B was provided, the only difference between it and
2.08 were that aliases AND callsigns appeared in the routes list.
Version 2.09 was a developmental model. Several new features were tested.
One variation had the user table expanded from a total of 25 to 50 up and down-
links. This version was released for DXPacketCluster beta testing.
With version 2.10, three sub-versions are introduced. These are 2.10st,
2.10dx, and 2.10tm. 2.10st is the normal, or standard version intended for LAN
and backbone trunk use. All variations have an auto-reconnect feature that
allows users who are "byed" or retryed out of a connect to be automatically
returned to the next version 2.10 node along the circuit. The procedure for
changing parameters is simplified. HDLC code changes causes transitions to be
sent, instead of flags, during the TXD period. This allows the target receiver
to react faster to incoming frames.
Version 2.11 fixed the bug in the TXDelay diddle. The diddle was removed
the node now sends flags as with versions previous to 2.09. This version also
implements the "SIO BUG" fix passed on to us by GB7LWB. 2.11dx does allow 50
links thru the node. It allows the setting of the callsign of the dxcluster
into the node. Any user can connect to the dxcluster by sending a "C" command.
The user is allowed to use only the C [only to the server callsign] and Bye
command. A sysop has the basic node command set.
ALL NODE DIGIPEAT FUNCTIONS ARE REMOVED. With few exceptions, digipeating
through a node adversely impacts normal network flow. Sacrificing the digipeat
function to gain programming space for the new features was the resultant
trade-off. For those requiring a digi function, version 2.08 should be used.
Parameters for HEARD list length and DIGIPEAT are eliminated. Transport
parameters are SYSOP settable and the string total is 23, up from 16 in version
2.08. Source and destination thrulinks are identified in the USERS display.
STA LED now lights on either of thrulink (L3) or circuit (L4) connects.
ROUTES display shows both alias and callsigns of neighbors. 2.10dx is the same
as 2.10st with exception of user table size being expanded from 25 to 50. The
dx version is intended to serve a DXPacketCluster. 2.10tm is designed for site
telemetry applications (requires daughterboard construction).
NOTE: While 2.10tm is available, the development is on-going. Rather than
delay distribution of TN2.10 until a low cost "representative" site telemetry
package is put together and debugged, 2.10tm is not included with this distro.
